The College Board recently announced that the SAT will be terminated in June 2021, and a new AP test policy will be released. With this news, the university application process has changed dramatically, now that schools will not require the submission of standardized test results. Instead, universities will be paying more attention to students’ GPA, paperwork, extracurricular activities, and more. As a result, students will need to change how they’ve been applying to colleges. So how can students and their parents respond to these new changes in university applications, while standing out in the highly competitive process?

In order to help students prepare, Harmony Plus is offering an online data strategy academic research project this summer. This exclusive project will help make it easy for children to stand out in the university application process. Taught by Dr. Gregory L., star professor at the University of California, Berkeley, he will lead the data strategy research project to help children become the next generation of data scientists.

Through this program, you will:

✦ Learn the fundamental knowledge of Data Science from a UC Berkeley Professor
✦ Understand the business applications of Data Science
✦ Apply predictive analytics to real-world case studies
✦ Master data management software tools, such as BigML and DataRobot
✦ Perform data analysis using datasets that will be made available during the course
✦ Gain invaluable research experience with an in-depth academic presentation and research paper

Course Overview

Data science is an inter-disciplinary field that uses scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract knowledge or insights from data in various forms. Data science is an extension of data analysis fields like data mining, statistics, predictive analysis.

Data science uses theories and techniques that are part of other fields, such as information science, mathematics, statics and computer science. Some of the methods used in data science include probability models, machine learning, signal processing, data mining, statistical learning, database, data engineering, visualization, pattern recognition and learning, uncertainty modeling, computer programming among others.

This program offered by UC Berkeley professor Greg L. aims to provide an understanding of the role of data and statistical analysis in managerial decision- making. We focus on the role of managers as both consumers and producers of information, illustrating how finding and/or developing the right data and applying appropriate statistical methods can help solve problems in business. With a highly experiential curriculum that combines lectures case discussions and team projects, this program will equip students with the competitive edge in their professional and academic career by mastering one of the hottest topics of technology.

Why Choose a Data Science Summer Research Project?

Data and information have become key resources in all major industries. Data is important for many organizations at all levels, not just IT and software companies. From finance to automotive, from energy to healthcare and more, every field relies on big data to better serve its customers and succeed.

For three consecutive years, data scientist was named the number one job in the United States by Glassdoor. Despite this, data science job vacancies are large. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that by 2026, there will be 11.5 million data science job vacancies. In order to meet this market demand, universities have expanded their enrollment in data engineering and data analysis. Data science students are very popular after graduation, often finding a career quickly. This is good news for them; the average annual salary of junior positions reaches $120,000 US dollars.

What Kind of Students is the Project Suitable For?

High school students who are interested in STEM fields such as finance, data science, and business analysis and want to get offers from prestigious schools.

Meet the Project Mentor

Dr. Gregory L., is the only interdisciplinary professor who also teaches at the Haas School of Business, School of Law and School of Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. He has also teaches at other top universities such as Duke University and University of Pennsylvania. With four undergraduate degrees, one master’s degree, and two doctoral degrees (finance and law), Dr. Greg has the credentials to back up his experience. Serving as an advisory board member of many Silicon Valley companies in the internet, artificial intelligence, Fin-tech and other fields, he is in tune with the current market demands. With so much knowledge, it only makes sense that he is also the first professor in the United States to offer a blockchain course.

Teaching Method

This project offers small class online teaching combined with group project practice. Over the course of the project, students will experience:
