Environmental Engineering Recap (Week 2)
As students learn more about the forces, both natural and artificial, that shape the world, so too do they progress into their own research projects. For this week, students dove into natural populations, ecological footprint, and the Tragedy of the Commons, a resource-depleting situation that occurs in unregulated consumption of a shared resource. They also learned about land use, resource consumption, and sustainable buildings, which focused on the the impact of human influences and industries on the globe.
Students also began to put their research together into preparing an abstract in preparation for the AGU (American Geophysical Union) conference submissions. Using their collected and processed datasets as well as relevant supporting journals and articles, students will now work on refining and finalizing their research topics, which will be summarized by the abstract. The research abstract will play an important role in sparking the reader’s interest, by briefly explaining the research methodology, the datasets used, and the key takeaways of the research paper.
